Huawei Officially Launches Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro and the Watch GT In The UAE
At the Burj Park in Dubai, Huawei Middle East has officially unwrapped their latest and greatest flagship smartphones called the Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro. The new smartphones come with the latest Leica camera technologies and the fastest hardware made by the company. Huawei also unveiled their latest Huawei Watch GT smartwatch at the event.
The new Mate 20 series smartphones differ in both screen sizes and the type of panel used. The Mate 20 comes with a larger 6.5-inch IPS display and with a resolution of 1080 x 2244 and with 18:7:9 as its aspect ratio. The Mate 20 Pro, on the other hand, comes with a slightly smaller, but sharper Super AMOLED display, featuring a resolution of 1440 x 3120 and its aspect ratio is 19:5:9. The Mate 20 Pro’s display has a brightness of 538ppi and the Mate 20 with 381ppi of screen brightness. Looks wise, the Mate 20 is recognized with a water-drop alike notch on the top, while the Mate 20 Pro comes with a rectangular notch.
While both the smartphones are powered by the latest Kirin 980 processors, the Mate 20 comes with 6GB of RAM and the Mate 20 Pro with 8GB of RAM. The Kirin 980 chipset features two Cortex A76 cores clocked at 2.6 GHz, two Cortex A76 at 1.92 GHz and four Cortex A55 cores at 1.8 GHz. The new devices run on the latest Android 9.0 out of the box and the user interface is based on the EMUI 9.0 skin. The Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro comes with 128GB of internal storage, however, there is a 256GB version for the latter model. While we all are used with the MicroSD card slots, the Mate 20 series devices now depend on the smaller “Nano Memory” and the slot can be used as the second SIM card slot.
The Huawei P20 Pro features an advanced camera configuration as its primary shooters, mainly the 40MP wide-angle shooter with F1.8 aperture, a 20MP sensor with F2.2 as its aperture for ultrawide shots and an 8MP sensor for telephoto shots. According to Huawei, the 40MP image sensor is slightly bigger than the average image sensor used for smartphones, making it the better shooter for cleaner image quality. All the three camera sensors are backed with phase detection for fast autofocus speeds.
The Huawei P20 comes with a different primary configuration, featuring a 12MP sensor as its wide-angle shooter, a 16MP sensor for ultra-wide and an 8MP telephoto lens. Both the smartphones feature the same 24MP selfie camera with f2.0 as its aperture and can record videos up to 1080p at 30fps. Both the cameras can record videos up to 2160p at 30fps. The Huawei Mate 20 comes with a 4000 mAh battery and the Mate 20 Pro packs a slightly larger 4200 mAh battery. While these device support fast charge via its USB Type-C port and wireless charging, the new P20 Pro comes with a new feature called “reverse charging” that allows users to turn their P20 Pro into a wireless charging pad. Users will be able to charge their other wireless-charging supporting smartphones from the P20 Pro, ensuring that they will be able to lend some of your smartphone battery power on the go. As for the water resistance, the Huawei P20 is certified with IP53 dust and splash protection and the P20 Pro with IP68 water and dust resistance.
Huawei also unveiled the Huawei Watch GT smartwatch that is claimed to offer over 2 weeks of battery life and features a built-in GPS. Unlike the previous generation Huawei wearables, the Huawei Watch GT is not based on Google Wear OS and is based on Huawei’s own home-made software called the LiteOS. The battery life of the Watch GT is 420 mAh and can run up to a month in a special watch mode and two weeks in normal mode. The wearable also features a 1.39-inch AMOLED display with 454 x 454 as its screen resolution. The wearable comes with a wide array of sensors for ambient light, air pressure, and features exercise modes for cycling, running and swimming, and all these are possible with its 5 ATM water rating. The device is compatible with both Android and iOS smartphones.
Huawei also showcased the Porsche Design Mate 20 RS, however, the prices and release dates are yet to be disclosed for the UAE region. That said, the Huawei Mate 20 and the Mate 20 Pro are available for preorders and is priced at AED 2599 and AED 3299, respectively. The Huawei Watch GT smartwatch is priced at AED 799 in the UAE.
